A Thicker, Fire-Rated Banner for Venues and Frames

Premium PVC banners are printed on a thicker, coated banner-grade PVC that's M1/B1 fire-rated to UK and European fire safety standards. It's the material to choose when a venue asks for fire-rated signage, and it's best suited to tension frames, where a thicker material holds flat and taut. It works indoors and out, printed in full colour with UV-based inks made to resist fading.

Enter any size in metres, centimetres, millimetres, feet or inches, and choose a finish. Banners are priced by the square metre.

Premium or Standard PVC?

Choose Premium PVC if:

  • The venue requires fire-rated materials. Exhibition halls, shopping centres, schools, hospitals, stadiums and event venues often specify M1 or B1. Premium PVC meets both.
  • It's going into a tension frame. The thicker, coated material holds its shape under tension and looks flatter and more finished in a frame.
  • You want a heavier, more substantial feel for a banner on show at close range.

Choose Standard PVC for everyday outdoor banners on fences, railings and shopfronts, where fire rating isn't required and price matters more.

Choosing a Finish

The finish decides how your banner goes up, so choose it based on where it's going.

Hems & Eyelets is the standard choice for fences, railings, walls and frames. Every edge is folded and welded into a 53mm hem for strength, then fitted with metal eyelets: one in each corner and no more than one per metre in between. If you need eyelets closer together, or in specific positions, tell us when you order. There's no extra charge.

Angled & Hemmed Corners with Eyelets is the same as Hems & Eyelets, but the corners are angled off before hemming, for a neater, less bulky corner.

Hems & Corner-Only Eyelets has the same welded hem, with eyelets in the four corners only. It suits small banners, or banners tied at the corners.

Hems Only gives a welded 53mm hem with no eyelets, for clipping, clamping or fixing your own way.

Hem with Velcro is a hemmed banner with a Velcro (hook and loop) fixing, for mounting onto a frame or surface fitted with the matching strip.

Pole Pocket(s) adds a sleeve along the edges you choose, so a pole can slide through to hang or tension the banner. Tell us your pole diameter and we'll size the pocket to fit.

Trimmed to Size is cut straight to size with no hem. It's the usual choice for tension frames and boards that grip the edge of the banner.

Trimmed with Eyelets is cut to size with eyelets added around the edge, but no hem.

Trimmed with Corner-Only Eyelets is cut to size with an eyelet in each corner and no hem.

What Goes Wrong, and Why

The venue won't accept it. A standard banner was ordered for a venue that requires fire-rated materials. Check the venue's requirements before you order, and choose Premium PVC if M1 or B1 is specified.

It doesn't fit the tension frame. The banner was ordered at the frame's outside size instead of the graphic size the frame needs, or a hemmed finish was chosen for a frame that grips a trimmed edge. Check your frame's graphic size and fixing method first.

Text is lost in the hem or behind an eyelet. The welded hem and eyelets take up the outer 60mm all round. Keep text and logos inside that.

The pole pocket ate into the design. Pockets are made within the size you order, not added to it. Leave a pocket allowance along that edge.

Eyelets tear out. The banner was fixed with cable ties or rope that has no give. Use bungee ties through every eyelet. Like all banners, take it down in winds over 30mph.

Blacks look washed out. 100% black alone prints flat on PVC. Use a rich black of C50 M50 Y50 K100.

Artwork Requirements

Set your artwork up at the same proportions as your banner. You can work at full size, half, quarter or 10% scale. For anything over 5m in either direction, use a smaller scale, because PDFs can't exceed 5080mm.

  • Bleed: 5mm on every edge, at full size
  • Hemmed finishes safe area: keep text and logos at least 60mm inside the finished edge. This margin sits within your banner size; it isn't added to it.
  • Pole pocket allowance: on each pocket edge, keep important content clear of a strip equal to pole diameter × 2.5 + 30mm. For a 25mm pole that's 92.5mm; for a 50mm pole, 155mm.
  • Colour: CMYK. For deep black, use C50 M50 Y50 K100.
  • Resolution: if you design at reduced scale, switch off image downsampling when exporting
  • No crop marks, colour bars or keylines inside the bleed
  • Fonts outlined, images embedded
  • PDF only
  • One design per order

Every file is checked by a real person before printing, so obvious problems get flagged. We don't make changes or fixes to artwork — files should be supplied print-ready.
